6. Membership Categories and Claims
6.1 Membership Categories
Members of the Club shall be enrolled in one of the following categories:
a) First Claim Member;
b) Second Claim Member;
c) Social Member (Non-Runner);
Rules relating to a Guest (Non-members) – including Trial Participants are outlined in section 6.5 Below. These are based on EA Guidelines.
6.2 First Claim Members
First Claim Members are those individuals who represent Selby Striders as their primary athletics club.
First Claim Members shall be entitled to:
a) participate in Club training sessions and coaching sessions;
b) participate in races, leagues, and competitions on behalf of the Club, subject to the relevant league or governing body rules (e.g. YDRRL, EYXCL);
c) be registered with England Athletics as First Claim athletes of the club;
d) vote at General Meetings of the Club;
e) stand for election as Club Officers or Committee Members;
f) be eligible for Club championships, records and awards,
g) be eligible for club ballots such as, The clubs London Marathon ballot or e.g. the (Knavesmire Harriers) Brass Monkey Half.
h) participate in Club social activities (running and non running).
6.3 Second Claim Members
Second Claim Members are those individuals who are first claim members at another club but who wish to train with and participate at Selby Striders.
Second Claim Members shall be entitled to:
a) participate in Club training sessions and coaching sessions;
b) participate in races, leagues, and competitions on behalf of the Club subject to the relevant league or governing body rules relating to second claim members; (e.g. YDRRL, EYXCL);
c) be registered with England Athletics as second Claim athletes of the club;
d) participate in Club social activities (running and non-running).
Second claim members are not entitled to:
e) vote at General Meetings of the Club (e.g. AGM or EGM’s);
f) stand for election as Club Officers or Committee Members;
g) be eligible for Club championships or Club records;
h) be eligible for club ballots such as, The clubs London Marathon ballot or e.g. the (Knavesmire Harriers) Brass Monkey Half.
6.4 Social Members (Non-Runner)
Social Members (Non-Runner) are individuals who do not participate in running activities but who wish to remain/be involved in the Club’s social and community life.
Social (Non-Runner) Members may:
a) attend and participate in Club activities and events in a non-running capacity;
Social (Non-Runner) Members shall not:
a) participate in Club runs, training sessions, or races;
b) represent the Club competitively;
c) vote at General Meetings; or
d) be eligible for Club ballots, records, or championships.
6.5 Guests and Trial Participation (Non-Member)
A Guest is an individual who is not recorded on the Club’s register of members and who attends Club activities or social events on a temporary, occasional, or trial basis.
A Guest may attend the Club:
a) as the guest of a current Member, in which case that Member shall be responsible for the Guest; or
b) where the Guest does not know a current Member, as a Guest of the Club, in which case responsibility shall rest with the Club through a nominated Committee Member, Run Leader, or other person authorised by the Management Committee.
A Guest may attend Club social events (e.g. as a partner or companion of a Member), where such attendance has been pre-approved by Management Committee.
Guests may attend the Club for the purpose of trying out the Club prior to applying for membership.
Attendance as a Guest or on a trial basis shall not confer membership of the Club.
- Attendance as a Guest at Club activities shall not exceed one month or three Club activities in any membership year, unless otherwise approved by the Management Committee.
- Guests shall be bound by this Constitution and all Club policies and codes of conduct and shall not be entitled to vote, hold office, or represent the Club competitively.
- The Member hosting a Guest, shall be responsible for ensuring the Guest’s compliance with the Club’s rules and policies.
- Guest status shall not be used as an alternative to membership, and the Management Committee may require any person attending regularly as a Guest to apply for the appropriate category of membership or cease attendance.
- The Management Committee reserves the right to refuse, limit, or withdraw Guest attendance at any time where it considers such action to be in the best interests of the Club, its Members, or its compliance with governing body requirements.
