The Strider’s safety net: What to carry for emergencies
by Selby Strider Nick Winn

You’ve laced up your running shoes, set your pace, and are ready to hit the road. But have you thought about what you’d do in case of an emergency? We asked our Striders what they carry to ensure they’re prepared for the unexpected.

Personalised tags and wristbands
Some of our runners swear by personalised tags that attach to their Garmin devices. These tags not only carry their name but also emergency contact details and any essential medical information. It’s a simple yet effective way to keep vital information at hand. Here is one example from Callie whilst bracelet company Notch also supply tags.

Tech-savvy solutions
For those who run with their iPhones, the Health app offers a feature to store medical information and emergency contacts. This data can be accessed even from the lock screen, making it a convenient and tech-savvy solution. For Android users, full instructions on how to add ICE (in case of emergency) contact details to your lock screen can be found online.

The Parkrun barcode
A popular choice among our Striders is the Parkrun barcode tag, usually attached to a running shoe. It’s a straightforward method that provides emergency contacts and leaves space for any medical needs you might have.

First Aid on the go
Some Striders recommend carrying a small first aid kit in a bumbag. While it might not be doctor-approved, it’s a practical solution for minor injuries or issues you might encounter on your run. You may have noticed many members of our club sporting these fetching numbers. Better to be safe than sorry!

Listen to Your Body
It’s crucial to remember that your safety measures should suit your needs. Whether it’s a personalised tag or a tech-savvy solution, choose what makes you feel secure and prepared.

Your safety is a personal journey, much like your running. Don’t rush into someone else’s method; take the time to find what works for you. After all, the best run is a safe run.
