Welfare and Safeguarding

As an England Athletics Affiliated Club, we have adopted the UKA and HCAF Adult Safeguarding Policy and Adult Safeguarding Procedures. A link to the code of conduct and procedures can be found at the bottom of this page.

The safety and welfare of all our club members is important to us, and we have a team of welfare officers who you can talk to. If you have a concern or are concerned about another member, please get in touch. Our welfare team is here to help, whether you need advice, assistance, or just a chat. They will treat your concern sensitively and confidentially.

Meet the team:

Sarah Endicott: Hello! I’m Sarah, the lead female Welfare Officer at Selby Striders. I joined Striders in August 2024. I’ve always been active and a competitive athlete from a young age, when I used to do track and field. I got into distance running in 2010, starting off with Race for Life. I took a break from running due to needing spinal surgery and returned to it in 2022. Running for me is my way of helping me regulate and keep fit whilst enjoying the social aspect of club life too. Having run all distances from 5k to marathon and a couple of Endure events as a relay team, my favourite distance is anything I can manage when not injured. I’m happy just to be able to run and would usually be with group 3 or 4.

Deb Jones: Hi, I’m Debs, one of the welfare team. I started running in summer 2022 using the NHS Couch to 5K app to get fitter.
In 2024, a friend did the Striders Couch to 5K programme and encouraged me to join the progression to 10K group, which led me to become a member of Striders.
I now regularly run club sessions, taken part in Strider events and have run several races, including the Great North Run and the York 10 Mile this year. I’ve met some fantastic people by joining the club and really enjoy running with such a supportive group. You can usually find me in group 4 having a natter whilst covering the miles.
If I had to chose a favourite distance it would probably be 10K and my favourite races are the ones that end with cake!

Lisa Airlie: I’ve been a member of Selby Striders since 2025, but I was running for a couple of years before that at parkrun. You can usually hear me complaining about running before you see me – but I do enjoy it really (promise!). Although I’m not a fast runner I think it’s important to encourage any distance and speed because it’s getting out of the door that matters most to me. I work within the safeguarding team at a local high school, so if you have any welfare
concerns you may wish to discuss I’m always happy to listen. I usually attend Tuesday club run and really enjoy Saturday parkruns. My favourite part of running is the food you can enjoy afterwards! I take my inspiration from my wonderful mum who can run for miles and miles – I have no intention of following in those footsteps, although running is now usually a family day out for us.

Chris Green: I started running 10 years ago to lose weight and get active. I decided to join Selby Striders over 2 years ago and it’s the best decision I’ve made. I’ve made some of the best friends whilst being at the club and the support from all the other members is great. I attend many of the weekly runs from Tuesday club runs, Wednesday speed sessions and Thursday club runs. I also race over the calendar year in the Striders’ colours from Summer league, cross country, and many more races from 5k to marathons.

Ste Denny: I joined Selby Striders in 2018 after attending the Selby parkrun Saturday morning runs. After meeting so many new friends from parkrun they introduced me to the Striders running group. Since joining Selby Striders along with friends I already knew, I have met so many more through the weekly club runs, social events and competitive races the group enters. Advancing from 5km parkruns, I am now an active pacer at run events. I’m often involved in Selby Striders Club events to encourage and support other striders. Feel free to contact me if you need anything or come find me on clubs runs for a chat.
