Striders legend up for prestigious volunteer award Long standing Selby Striders members Steve Ingledew has been nominated for an England Athletics volunteer of the years award in recognition of his work over the years in helping countless numbers of people find the joy of running.
Steve first got the running bug in 1984 completing his first half marathon that same year. He went on to join Selby Striders just over 30 years ago, becoming chair of the club in 1992, this period saw the club develop and take up new adventures such as the East Yorkshire cross country league which now sees dozens of Striders competing each year. During his running career Steve has completed over 500 races from 5k up to marathon. Steve says his biggest achievement though is the establishing of Get running Selby which was set up in conjunction with the leisure centre to organise couch to 5km courses. Hundreds of people have since gone through these course, many of whom are still running and involved with the Striders. Get running Selby evolved to become the Striders couch to 5k course and this year had another great group of graduates many who are seen on club nights or putting themselves through their paces on a Saturday morning at Selby Parkrun.
The club want to thank Steve for all his efforts over the years and wish him best of luck at the awards night.
