Selby Striders Club Championship – Rules and Regulations
The Club Championship aims to encourage members to set personal goals across the year whilst exploring different distances and terrains. Just as importantly, it celebrates the wider contribution members make to the club, whether that is racing, volunteering or supporting others.
We also want the Championship to be as inclusive as possible, ensuring everyone has a fair chance to compete on a level playing field.
Format:
- The championship consists of 12 races, mixing different distances and terrains
- A member’s five best results from those 12 races (i.e. total points earned when combining overall position and age category position) combined with volunteer and bonus points will be used in the Open and Female championship ranking. The top three individuals will be awarded at the 2027 AGM
- If there is a draw on points, the member who has competed in the most races wins
- The Club Championship Officer is responsible for recording all race result points only. Any volunteer points need to be sent for inclusion in the Championship directly
The Championship is open to all first and second claim members. Only races completed while representing Selby Striders will count. The club must be listed as Selby Striders in the official race results.
We will also be adding two club handicap races. These are designed to mix-up the field and provide a chance for those who might not be at the top of the field in traditional races to earn big points. These will be run in the same fashion as previous club handicap races.
Points
1st Strider home = 50 pts, 2nd = 48 pts, 3rd = 46 pts etc. down two points each place until it reaches 2 pts (everyone from here would get 2 pts)
Age category position (defined by race entered): 1st Strider = 15 pts, 2nd = 10 pts, 3rd = 5 points, 4th onwards = 3 pts (N.B. if there are no age categories for the race no points will be given).
Bonus points
- East Yorkshire XC League and Yorkshire Road Race League = 10 pts per race participated in (points for the Road Race League Wistow 10k and East Yorkshire XC League Welton will not be included to ensure we have enough volunteers.)
- Up to 4x volunteers at parkrun or Junior parkrun (both count) = 20 pts each
- Up to 2x support at Couch25k (split across two periods, weeks 1-5 and weeks 6-10) = 20 pts each
- Up to 1x support progression group = 20 pts
- Up to 2x support at a club event / social (e.g. Stag v Monkey) = 20 pts
- Up to 2x volunteer at Wistow 10k (club race and Road Race League) = 25 pts each
- 1x volunteer at Welton East Yorkshire XC League race = 25 pts
Strider Segs
New for 2026! Strider Segs are monthly challenges designed to add a fun, competitive element alongside the main Championship races (similar to the Burrito League, we’re going all on-trend this year).
For two different months (June 2026 and October 2026) a designated Strava segment (“Strider Seg”) will be announced. Members can attempt the segment as many times as they like during that calendar month. At the end of the month, the most recorded times (not fastest!) by Selby Striders will earn championship points.
You can walk or run it either on club runs or by yourself.
Points
1st Strider = 30 points
2nd Strider = 20 points
3rd Strider = 10 points
Rules
- The activity must be publicly visible on Strava to count
- The run must be completed in a single continuous activity (no manual uploads) and only one segment completion counts per day (so no running up and down the same segment 10 times on the same outing!)
- Only runs completed during the designated calendar month will count
The Championship Committee will select segments that are safe, accessible and suitable for runners of different abilities.
